Defenders of Sherwood VIIJune 1-3, 2007The Shire of Misty Highlands once again challenges all to join us for battle and competition in the forests of Sherwood. This year Robin and his band will boldly face the Sheriff’s forces in scenic Sherwood Forest, where they will attempt to best each other in contests of rapier, archery and full armored engagements on the field with combat archery. Of course the merry men will also offer thrown weapons, an A&S display, a scribal tea, rapier woods battles, plus a medieval Italian feast created by Don Anias Fenne. The evenings will also see bardic activities, drumming, and dancing. This year our site will be Camp Mahonegon (6C71 Box 93 Ellamore, WV), located 3 miles off Rt. 33 (four lane highway), near Buckhannon, WV. This is the same site as last year. The site opens at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1st, and closes at Noon on Sunday, June 3rd. The site is dry and no pets are allowed. Service animals must be leashed. This is a rustic scout camp, and unfortunately is not fully handicap accessible. Accommodations:Dormitory-style bunks are available, and plenty of land will be available for tent camping. The cabins have standard metal-frame bunk beds with mattresses; attendees should bring their own bedding. There are also several open-air Adirondack style cabins, and plenty of land for tent camping. Alternate Accommodations:For those seeking private sleeping arrangements, there are several hotels less than 25 minutes from the site, including Hampton Inn, Super 8, and Comfort Inn. Fees:The site fee is $7.00 for the weekend, which includes brunch on Saturday. A cabin bunk is $2.00; tent camping is free. On-board for feast will be an additional $7.00. Children under 12 are ½ price; children under 5 are free. Feast space is limited, so please make reservations early. To reserve, send the appropriate amount by May 25, 2007 to Lady Rota Egilsdottir (Alicia Lyons; rotaegilsdottir AT yahoo.com), RR 1 Box 117 Grafton, WV 26354. Make checks payable to "SCA, Inc. - Misty Highlands.” Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Directions:Take your best route to I-79, Exit 99 (Weston). From either North or South, turn right onto Rt. 33 East towards Buckhannon, WV. Go approximately 21.5 miles, and you will see a Chevron station and start to go downhill. Turn right onto Boy Scout Road, and then turn right again in 0.2 miles as you come to the bottom of the hill. At approximately 1 mile, there will be a fork in the road, take a left, follow the signs to the scout camp and continue to follow the stream until you see the camp. The camp is 2.5 miles from the main road. Signs will be posted. Staff:Autocrat: Lady Angelline Cruceau (Robyn Babineau) 920-D Stewart St. Morgantown, WV 26505.
